Manager, Business Development & Investment – Job ID 11369

Reporting to the Director, Economic Development and Tourism, the Manager of Business Development &Investment will be the primary point of contact for all investment attraction activities including Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), lead generation and lead advancement through providing investment decision advisory services.

The incumbent will:

• Present and promote Durham Region as a destination of choice for non-residential investment for the purpose of creating jobs and strengthening local industry clusters
• Serve as primary point of contact for industrial and commercial investment lead inquiries
• Organize and conduct tours to showcase Regional assets for prospective investors and incoming delegations
• Lead research and analytics to inform overall strategy, improve business services delivered to prospective investors, and form key messaging
• Identify and continually update priority target geographies and industry sub-sectors for attracting inbound investment
• Develop and implement a marketing strategy for generating awareness of Regional competitiveness and value proposition, generating leads internationally and domestically for prospective investment, and advance leads through the sales funnel
• Coordinate and/or participate in global business missions with or without delegations that could consist of Regional politicians, area municipalities, post-secondary institutions, business community and other stakeholders
• Manage staff to ensure Investment Attraction Plan targets are being achieved
• Develop and implement an FDI Strategy, and Annual Business Plan for attracting investment and jobs to the Region
• Represent Durham Region with a focus on promoting and selling the Region as the place to invest
• Participate in sector-specific tradeshows, seminars and investment meetings
• Develop and manage annual budget for Investment Attraction portfolio

The successful applicant will possess:

• A degree or diploma in Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce or a related discipline or relevant experience
• Several years managerial experience within the private sector business development environment or a municipal Economic Development environment
• Professional sales experience with an understanding and ability to conform to the sales cycle
• Strong economic analysis, research, and data analytics skills
• Extensive knowledge of business procedures in the fields of economic development and marketing
• Strong ability to build relationships at the executive level
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to lead and direct staff
• Strong consultation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation/public speaking ability
• Excellent business development, project management, financial management and analytical skills

Salary: $97,311 to $121,639 per annum
