Digital Director

Friends of Canadian Broadcasting (friends.ca) is the citizens' advocate for journalism and storytelling. We have 364,000 supporters across Canada and are completely independent of any broadcaster, corporation or political party.

Who You Are
Today, we’re looking for an experienced, ambitious storyteller to take on a new leadership role in advocacy communications within the organization. This is a rare opportunity to make a significant difference in Canadian politics and society, and to make great work. You will build your own team and develop a strategy to connect Canadians to our work, helping them to understand and appreciate the importance of strong Canadian journalism and storytelling.

You will have experience working in content production (be it video, print, and/or digital), with the ability to quickly spot an opportunity for engagement and respond. You are fluent in English, ideally proficient in French, and can also speak in GIFs. This opportunity is based in our Toronto office, and you will report to the Executive Director.

What You'll Be Doing
+ Design and deliver a content strategy to raise awareness of pressing media issues and their implications for Canadian culture and democracy, and mobilize people to take action

  • Hire, develop, and manage a content team
  • Produce a range of compelling, persuasive content with your team, including sharable video, audio, images, writing, and conversations on social
  • Create and manage a content calendar based on org priorities, news, and cultural moments
  • Develop and manage the annual content budget
  • Track and report content performance through analytics and a ladder of engagement, to grow the number supporters and donors of Friends
  • Work closely and collaborate with the Executive Director and Head of Communications

Skills and Experience

  • Work closely and collaborate with the Executive Director and Head of Communications
  • Strong understanding of the current digital and social media space, up to speed with latest developments and trends, as well as snake oil
  • Understanding of data and analytics for strategy and performance
  • Ability to work quickly in the daily news cycle and deliver on tight deadlines
  • Experience managing a team
  • Interest in taking a project from nothing to something (awesome)
  • Passion for sharable storytelling that sparks change
  • Bachelor’s Degree or related experience
  • Political experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in French is an asset

Compensation
Salary is $90,000 - $110,000 based on experience and portfolio. This is a full-time position which includes access to a benefits plan.
