Principle Accountabilities:

  1. Builds annual stakeholder engagement, marketing & communications strategy that supports organizational vision and delivers against key technical safety priorities.
  2. Drives continuous improvement of Go-To-Market tools and processes, with specific focus on campaign plans that effectively use advertising, media relations, events, channel marketing and digital tools to deliver desired outcomes.
  3. Oversees and manages sensitive, timely and complex public issues, manages strategic communications relations with the Province of BC’s Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) team, and provides strategic communications counsel to Technical Safety BC’s Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  4. Cultivates productive relationships with key media throughout the province.
  5. Collaborates with internal teams to support change management activities and evangelize communications standards consistent with the Technical Safety BC brand and values. 
  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with channel and industry partners in the safety system, including GCPE officials, industry stakeholder associations, regulatory agencies and others to inform organizational decision-making, improve reach and identify new risks to the safety system. 
  7. Oversees stakeholder consultation and research process for new initiatives and risks facing the safety system. 
  8. Represents Stakeholder Engagement, Marketing & Communications in organizational annual and quarterly planning processes.
  9. Oversees the budget for Stakeholder Engagement, Marketing & Communications.
  10. Builds reporting and analysis of key performance indicators.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Requires a degree (Master’s degree is preferred) in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Behavioural Psychology or other relevant discipline, supplemented by a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a relevant field, with at least 5 years’ in a leadership position.
  • Relentless focus on, and empathy for, how people experience and interact with Technical Safety BC.
  • A track record of leadership excellence, collaborative workstyle, and outcome delivery.
  • Experienced media spokesperson, able to manage crises in a timely, calm and professional manner.
  • A lifelong learner with a passion for exploring new technologies and techniques that continuously improve our ability to engage people in the safety system.
  • Demonstrates comfort with change, can lead others through change and can coach others to apply principles of change management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people with different levels of technical background, including the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Understanding of the technical disciplines regulated by Technical Safety BC is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, management and coaching skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives, preferably in a unionized environment.
