About University Relations

Telling the Ryerson story -- that's the role of University Relations. Through a creative and integrated program of marketing, communications and government relations, University Relations works with partners inside and outside of the university to enhance the profile and reputation of Ryerson University.

Within University Relations, the Marketing and Creative Services team offers a suite of integrated marketing, branding, creative design, production and digital services to achieve strategic objectives and bring marketing initiatives to life. Our goal is to create high-quality marketing, advertising and communications solutions that enhance Ryerson’s brand and reputation, and to help promote our programs and vision - to be recognized as Canada’s leading comprehensive innovation university.

The Opportunity

This is a strategic role with primary responsibility for leading the institution’s brand strategy to build Ryerson’s profile and enhance its reputation in a fiercely competitive environment. The successful candidate will direct a team of marketing professionals and external suppliers, taking a collaborative approach to services across the department of University Relations and across client groups to ensure an integrated approach to promotion of the brand.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice-President, University Relations, the Director of Marketing and Creative Services will lead the development of a multi-year marketing campaign, and strategic marketing planning. The Director:

  • Supervises the execution of all creative initiatives;
  • Establishes effective and collaborative relationships within the university community on the development of strategies to promote the Ryerson brand;
  • Identifies and addresses the needs of faculties and units within the context of the brand;
  • Stewards a centre of excellence for the university sharing information on trends, establishing best practices and providing training services to the university community;
  • Inspires the marketing team to new creative heights; and
  • Supports the university’s commitment to equity, community and inclusion in marketing and creative initiatives.

Functional areas of responsibility include marketing, advertising, graphic design, web and digital experience and advertising, photography and production, digital media/content strategy. 

Qualifications

As the successful candidate, you have a minimum of ten years of experience developing high-calibre marketing and/or communications plans, including five years of leadership experience. You have a post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.

With a proven track record of success in marketing management roles, you’re a confident, skilful manager of stakeholder relations with ability to promote and facilitate the performance of teams across the department and across client groups. You have strong communications skills with particular attention to understanding the features of good writing across all platforms. You have an entrepreneurial/creative mind set, with the ability to spot new opportunities.

Experience in an educational and/or post-secondary education sector or agency sector is an asset.
