Marketing Campaign Officer

The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range:  $64,970 - $73,124 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $85,269 is available through annual performance increases

Job Summary: University Communications + Marketing provides strategic leadership and tactical support to assist UVic to realize its vision of being a university of choice for outstanding students, faculty and staff from BC, Canada and around the globe; strengthen its position among the best universities in Canada and the world; and achieve recognition for UVic’s significant contributions toward the betterment of global society.

The department ensures that UVic’s communications and marketing initiatives are aligned with the needs of the university’s most significant target audiences and focused on what makes UVic distinct.

Communications + Marketing leads the development and promotion of a consistent institutional narrative, a compelling and strategic long-term positioning for UVic, and an institutional communications and marketing plan aimed at promoting UVic’s interests in the competition for students, faculty, staff, financial support and institutional reputation.

With the direct guidance of the university’s Executive Council, the department works with academic and administrative units as partners, to make the most effective use of university resources to advance unit and institutional priorities.

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Campaign Officer plans integrated marketing campaigns that drive conversions. The role combines media planning and media buying.

The officer uses social, digital, traditional and direct marketing to reach their audiences, with a strong focus on targeting, optimizing and measuring campaigns.

The officer will lead various campaigns, building project plans and working with their team stakeholders to align objectives, build consensus and gain buy-in.

Job Requirements - This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate credential in communications, advertising or marketing or a related field and five years’ experience in campaign planning and project coordination.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • recent digital marketing certification (HubSpot or equivalent)
  • Strong data and analytics skills
  • Working-level skills with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Good working knowledge of market research techniques and methodology
  • Good working knowledge of copywriting, design, photography, video and print production
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, good judgment and ability to exercise initiative
  • Advanced knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
  • Project management and stakeholder skills, collaborative team member, and able to manage multiple projects and deliver on deadlines
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with team and stakeholders, using diplomacy and tact to navigate difficult and confidential matters
