Are you passionate about supporting local institutions/organizations make lasting change in their communities through communications, including social media?

Primarily, as a Communications Advisor you will provide support by sourcing content from the Youth and Adolescent Policy Division (YAPD) staff of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, writing and publishing engaging content to youth and other youth development stakeholders via the Youth Jamaica website and associated social media platforms. The website provides a wealth of information for young Jamaicans, including information on programs and activities, job opportunities, scholarships, & project grants. You will make daily updates to the website. The overall goal is to increase usage and engagement on the Youth Jamaica website and on the Youth Jamaica social media platforms.

As a volunteer, you will:

- Support the updating of content on the Youth Information Centre website  (www.youthjamaica.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.youthjamaica.com). This will include:

--Preparation of feature stories from YIC activities/events islandwide

--Updating of YouthJamaica events listing

--Review and approval of new user sign-ups on website

--Updating of YAPD staff profiles

--Online search and collation of scholarship listing for posting on www.youthjamaica.com. The listing will include secondary and tertiary level scholarships (locally and overseas) for which Jamaicans are eligible

--Monitoring of website traffic and making content recommendations based on analytics reports.

 

- Assist with the Management of Youth Jamaica social media platforms inclusive of:

--Daily updates to Youth Jamaica Facebook, twitter and Instagram pages

--Review of social media analytics and provision of recommendations based on analytics reports

 

-Support with the creation of PR materials for youth Jamaica website, posters, infographics and other promotional tools to support YAPD/YIC activities

-Staff training in public relation techniques

Essential Academic Qualifications:

- Pending degree in communications, marketing or advertising

Essential Professional Background:

-Experience in working with community clubs & community youth groups

-Experience in social media use and management

-Experience in website content

-Strong oral & written skills

-Strong communication skills

-Strong teamwork skills

-Good networking ability
