Description:  

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Cluster Development, the Assistant will provide marketing and advertising-focused program assistance to all areas of the Economic Development and Tourism Division.

 The incumbent will: 

- Provide support to Division Managers and Program Coordinators to assist with a wide variety of marketing and advertising initiatives and events
- Provide digital advertising campaign support including creatives, digital post creation and publishing
- Support and lead special projects on a monthly-basis as assigned; from research to program-specific data entry
- Support the creation of marketing materials such as signs, programs, PowerPoints, advertisements, analytics reports and digital campaigns for Economic Development and Tourism in a PC environment
- Write copy for publications and the Economic Development &Tourism website, including content for the Division's social media posts to promote programs or events
- Type, format, proofread and distribute drafts of advertising materials and prepare any required charts and graphs
- Use software to add captioning and translations to videos as required for accessibility
- Take photographs and video footage at events, ensuring proper consent is received and recorded, and edit photos and videos for marketing/advertising collateral use
- Maintain the Economic Development &Tourism consent image library
- Act as a website content management system user for the Economic Development portfolio by updating the website
- Create and convert documents to accessible standards
- Assist with events organized by the division, from event registration to marketing materials and project organization
- Graphically design complex programs, documents, advertisements, logos and infographics for Division Managers and Program Coordinators
- Assist with the Division's e-newsletter preparation using the Division's cloud-based customer relationship management system to generate and send e-newsletters and marketing pieces 

The successful candidate will possess: 

- A 2 year post-secondary diploma in graphic design, advertising, digital media, or related discipline
- Graphic design skills with experience in creating digital content
- Videography skills, with experience editing and creating polished videos for mobile formats
- Ability to complete work in a PC environment; the Region of Durham does not currently use Mac computers
- A well-developed knowledge of and experience with computer programs that include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, iCreate, Outlook, Constant Contact, HubSpot, professional video editing software, and social media platforms
- Advanced proficiency in creating accessible documents
- Well-developed interpersonal, and verbal skills as well as political astuteness in order to interact with Regional Council members, external agencies, and people at all levels in their respective organizations
- Ability to write various communication pieces advancing the Region's position on specific matters related to Economic Development (i.e. marketing materials, social media posts; letters/correspondence)
- Ability to work independently and work with minimal supervision while overseeing projects and meeting deadlines
- Ability to analyze and interpret clients' needs and provide appropriate solutions
- A valid Ontario Driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
