Director of Finance

PURPOSE:

Manages all financial risk; develops and implements financial systems; ensures compliance with regulatory and funder requirements; and leads an effective financial management infrastructure in accordance with approved plans and budgets, and the sustained financial health of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following:

  1.  Provide financial leadership.
    • Provide financial analysis and advice.
    • Prepare and interpret monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Generate reports and analysis to assist in decision-making.
    • Oversee and lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning process in conjunction with the CFAO.
  2.  Implement and ensure compliance with appropriate accounting and financial controls.
    • Review all payments and expense reimbursements.
    • Managing banking relationships, cash management, and other treasury related activities.
    • Oversees and reviews accounting tasks, including payroll, taxes, and compliance.
    • Review financial records, grants, restricted gifts, inventory valuation, and expense reporting for proper treatment.
    • Ensure the completion of a clean audit/review for the agency finances. Provide auditors with complete and accurate financial statements and supporting information and liaise with the Board finance committee.
    • Plan, implement, and update approved financial policies and procedures.
    • Manage insurance renewals and changes in coverage.
  3.   Provide financial systems management and support for the financial accounting software.
    • Manage the accounting system installation, access/security, use, and maintenance.
    • Evaluate and implement financial information systems.
    • Optimize the use of the accounting software by troubleshooting and resolving software issues, performing system maintenance, etc.
    • Act as needed as a liaison with the IT department and resellers on projects affecting financial systems.
  4.   Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages a growing finance department.

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff. 
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Liaison with CRCNA finance department.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

QUALIFICATIONS:  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  1.  Prior experience in a similar role.
  2.  Practical general business management knowledge.
  3.  Ability to effectively manage internal control in a multi-faceted service environment.
  4.  Financial accounting and systems management skills.
  5.  In-depth knowledge of accounting software, financial principles, and analysis.
  6.  Technology-savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software implementations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  7.  A track record in grants financial management.
  8.  Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  9.  A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
  10.  Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of World Renew.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1.  Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with an advanced degree preferred.
  2.  CPA certification preferred.
  3.  At least 10 years’ experience in financial management.
