McMillan has an exciting opportunity as a Marketing & Business Development Specialist in our Vancouver office. As an integral member of the team, you join a growing and dynamic group as you work in close consultation with Marketing & Business Development (MBD) Directors, client and practice groups along with national team members to develop and advance a broad range of internal and external marketing and business development activities.

What You’ll Do

You will be the go to person for your team who will depend on your marketing and client development experience to coordinate the marketing and business development activities both locally and nationally.

 You will tap into your marketing experience by;

  • Supporting the development and follow-through of MBD plans and firm priorities to enhance client relationships and build business
  • Identifying and assessing client event, advertising and strategic sponsorship opportunities
  • Leading in the creation and execution of client events liaising with lead lawyers, managing all aspects of event campaigns, data integrity and contact management through marketing automation and CRM systems
  • Identifying opportunities to expand the profile of McMillan in the market through speaking engagements, media, social media, etc.
  • Supporting the development of promotional content for distribution and external publication, including digital and social media, trade magazines, sponsorships/awards, recruitment, and community involvement projects
  • Supporting the coordination and participation in award nomination and submission processes
  • Creating and monitoring event schedules, troubleshooting with autonomy to capitalize on opportunities and resolve issues as they arise
  • Tracking expenses, monitoring budgets and reporting on event leads and outcomes
  • Collaborating with MBD Event Management team members to support best practice protocols
  • Supporting CASL/GDPR compliance related to data collection and management

You will provide Practice Group support by;

  • Providing local market support for practice and industry focused business plans, activities and related budget management
  • Supporting key client program deliverables
  • Sourcing and coordinating content development and delivery of collateral materials, branded items, related advertising and promotional materials

You will collaborate on national scale projects and services through;

  • Your aptitude to drive CRM engagement and engagement in online digital and social media along with website CMS
  • Contribution to the content strategy - bulletins, announcements, website, strategic plan priorities
  • Your support of international and cross-border focused marketing and business development activities
  • Your interest in brand enhancement and positioning

Finally, with any role there are administration tasks and these include;

  • Coordinating the assessment and approval process for marketing and BD initiatives
  • Assisting with processing the department’s account payables and cheque requisitions
  • Maintaining necessary filing and document management systems
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring

You have established yourself as a key resource in your successful marketing career. Your history includes a bachelor’s degree or diploma in communications, marketing, sales or related field. This is coupled with a minimum of four years of marketing related experience. You have strong project management, organizational and interpersonal skills. You are detail-oriented and are able to effectively meet deadlines, work well in a team setting, and provide an exceptional level of client service. You have excellent writing skills, outstanding verbal communication and presentation skills. You have proven successes liaising with external vendors such as creative agencies, printers, mailing houses and production companies. You embrace evolving technology and have superior skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You also have prior experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), including typographic, information design and layout skills and basic knowledge of web CMS systems, HTML and CSS. You are also available to work outside the regular business hours of 9 am – 5pm. Overtime is required. Previous experience in a professional services environment (legal, accounting, engineering) would be considered an asset.
