Summary of Position
The Content Writer is a versatile storyteller with strong writing and editing skills who is experienced with print and digital platforms and able to engage diverse audiences. This individual must be able to prioritize multiple projects and adjust work accordingly, often against tight deadlines. They will help oversee the creation and publication of dynamic corporate content such as the annual alumnae magazine, annual report, fundraising campaigns, a digital academic journal and more.  Our aim is always to align to the strategic objectives of the school, promote its vision, mission and values, and uphold its brand and standards.

Specific Accountabilities

Reporting & Writing:

  • Reporting, writing, and editing articles for print, web and mobile audiences while tailoring content to meet the varying needs of those platforms.
  • Manage the development and production of digital and print collateral, working with internal stakeholders and vendors to achieve a high level of quality and innovation, and communications standards.
  • Acts as assistant editor to the alumnae magazine which includes managing the timeline, interviewing subjects and writing articles, editing, and creating and execution a promotional plan..
  • Prepare written content for brochures, the annual report and various projects by conducting interviews, researching, writing, and managing external writers
  • Monitor and uphold the BSS brand and communications standards, editing and proofing all materials for quality control and provides guidance, support and consultation to other departments on strategic communications, branding and project management

Project Management:

  • Prioritize and manage school-wide support requests, liaising with other departments to confirm and clarify goals and deliverables
  • Manage The development of marketing materials for Advancement and Student Recruiting events. This includes strategic development, design (either in-house or with external designers), execution, metrics gathering and post evaluation.
  • Oversee work of professional designers

General:

  • Handle office administration, including organizing vendor invoicing and department meetings
  • Embed diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into all processes
  • Commit to the Staff Growth and Evaluation Program
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Exceptional editing and copywriting skills. A background in journalism, content creation, or corporate communications will be considered an asset.
  • Journalism or Communications, degree or diploma and/or a related combination of experience
  • Experience, preferably in a not-for-profit, agency and/or education setting
  • Experience with project managing the design and execution of extensive publications with a design agency. 
  • Background in content development and working with multiple external writers and stakeholders.
  • A skilled writer with lens to multiple external stakeholders, with demonstrated ability and experience producing editorial, corporate communications and advertising copy.
  • Superior strategic communications, writing and editing skills in digital and print platforms
  • Graphic design skills for smaller marketing pieces
  • Media relations background, with experience in writing and pitching news releases
  • Project management expertise, ability to prioritize and meet tight timelines
  • Professional manner, customer-service orientation and comfortable with fast-paced environment
  • Positive, creative, collaborative and organized
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, concurrent projects and demanding deadlines
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends during the school year
  • Commitment to and passion for the vision, mission and values of the school
