The Opportunity
As the leading authority on alternative investments in Canada, we are at an exciting phase of our evolution. We are searching for a Director of Content to join the Marketing team, reporting to the Head of Marketing. As an experienced financial services writer, you will be responsible for developing the content marketing strategy across all phases of the buyer journey in support of the retail and institutional business. Your expertise in alternative investment content will enhance our campaigns, events, videos, podcasts and thought leadership to educate financial advisors, investors and institutions and help them [Think Alternative].

Responsibilities of the Role
Develop content to fuel the growth of the business:

  • Create content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing campaigns
  • Deliver educational programs designed to educate advisors and their clients on alternative investing and alternative investment concepts
  • Create and publish engaging content for retail and institutional sales teams to activate strategic and tactical territory campaigns
  • Manage all editing, proofreading, and improve upon internal and external writers’ content
  • Lead all management, writing, editing, and curation of content across owned and paid channels on a monthly, quarterly and on an as-needed-basis
  • Create a lexicon for corporate tone-of-voice and style standards to ensure brand consistency

Collaboration, planning and optimization to drive efficiencies:

  • Partner with broader Product, Marketing and Sales teams to ensure alignment of campaign communications across all channels
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Design teams to plan content and develop owned digital properties, tools, custom client journeys on web sites to build awareness 
  • Liaise with content producers to ensure brand consistency
  • Collaborate with Product and Marketing to create new alternative investment content for various parts of the buyer journey and to enhance existing content
  • Ensure all communications are written and published in accordance with industry compliance standards
  • Analyze and suggest areas of improvement for content workflows that positively affect organizational results
  • Lead content distribution and collaborate with Marketing to schedule content to online channels and social media
  • Develop and manage an editorial calendar to optimize Investment, Product, Sales, and Marketing teams' work efforts
  • Optimize content for SEO
  • Use content management systems to analyze and report on website traffic and users’ engagement metrics
  • Stay up to date with alternative investment products, industry developments and content marketing strategies to generate innovative ideas that attract prospects and clients’ attention

The Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a writing or content marketing role within the investment management industry
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the financial services industry, specifically alternative investments product strategies and assets to interpret, anticipate, and teach others about it
  • Strong communications abilities to translate complex concepts into simple, practical value-add content including product information, social media posts, articles, presentations, tactical sales communications, press releases and other corporate communications
  • Proactive individual who is capable of research, interviewing and getting to the heart of the matter to write content in the most impactful and deliberate way for the intended audience
  • Ability to cope within a fast-paced working environment
  • Creative problem solving, strong analytical skills and the ability to learn independently
  • Ability to partner effectively and collaborate with other work groups and across functions
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • CFA designation, MBA, or equivalent would be an asset (but not required)
  • Working verbal and written knowledge of French would be an asset (but not required)
