Communications Lead (Design)

Reports to: Senior Communications Lead

Salary Range: $61,600 - $77,000

Location: Our head office is located in Ottawa, Ontario, however we welcome remote work outside Ottawa or a blend of onsite/work from home if the candidate is from the Ottawa area. Note that all staff are currently working from home and no travel is permitted. We are continually reassessing during the pandemic.

The Communications Lead (Design) is responsible for all in-house graphic design marketing and communication material. They work in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to establish design options and create high-quality material that meetings organizational and communication objectives, is fully accessible and ensures HEC’s brand and visual identity are maintained.

Your core responsibilities would include:

  • Provides in-house layout and design services, including working in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to establish design options, developing new templates, and ensuring that HEC’s brand and visual identity are consistently maintained to a high standard.
  • Coordinates and leads the production process of digital and print communication products (such as reports, publications, and infographics). This involves managing contractors/external providers (as required), translation, revisions, approvals, printing, and other activities.
  • Liaises with the Web Specialist and supports the development of digital communications and marketing products that are compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) accessibility standards.
  • Works with the Senior Lead, Marketing and Brand Management to continue to build and maintain HEC brand (and brand guidelines).

Education and experience you will need to have:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Marketing, Diploma in Graphic Design, combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience in a similar function.
  • Advanced graphic design skills and strong knowledge of Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) plus advanced computer and software skills (Microsoft Office, contact management systems and databases, and desktop publishing).
  • Specialized knowledge of formatting and document layout, pre-press and print production processes and digital document distribution/dissemination.
  • Sound understanding of accessibility in design and the application of AODA accessibility standards to digital and print material.
  • Advanced project management skills and the ability to efficiently meet tight deadlines involving collaborative efforts; carry out assignments that relate to complex subject matter and work in an emerging and sometimes ambiguous environment.
