Technical Safety BC has a bold vision for the future:

Safe technical systems. Everywhere.

The core values of the organization are simplicity, authenticity and accountability. In 2013, Technical Safety BC (formerly called BC Safety Authority) embarked on a 10-Year Strategy to transform from being a regulator with an inspection-based, transactional mindset to one of being a proactive thought leader that promotes safety awareness and accident prevention. Technical Safety BC employs 400 people who support thousands of clients from mobile and fixed offices across the province. The corporate office recently moved from New Westminster to flexible-concept office facilities in Vancouver near Renfrew Skytrain station on the Millennium Line.

Technical Safety BC currently regulates 7 technologies on behalf of the people of British Columbia, including:  1) electrical equipment and systems 2) boilers, pressure vessels and refrigeration systems 3) natural gas and propane appliances and systems, including hydrogen 4) elevator devices such as elevators and escalators 5) railways, including commuter rail 6) passenger ropeways, such as aerial trams and ski lifts and 7) amusement devices. Mandatory products established in the regulations include: Certifications, Licences, Installation Permits, Operating Permits, Alternative Safety Approaches and Design Registrations & Product Approvals. While Technical Safety BC must deliver the products described in the regulations, the organization has flexibility in how they are delivered to customers, and in the development of new, non-regulatory products and services. In terms of primary target audiences, Technical Safety BC focuses on specific populations, i.e. groups of duty holders who have unique legal responsibilities in the regulated environment. These primary segments include Asset/Equipment Owners, Certificate Holders, and Licensees. Technical Safety BC will continue to proactively adapt its ability to deliver value to the safety system in BC.
