ABOUT CANADA’S CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL FOUNDATIONS

This newly formed organization has been collaboratively developed by its members to respond to the increasing demand of donors wishing to establish national partnerships to have a greater impact on children’s health across the country. 

Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations represent 13 of Canada’s children’s hospitals – the hospitals which tackle the greatest challenges and see the most critical cases.  Through collaboration, CCHF ensures all Canadian children have access to the very best care.  Thanks to donors, children’s hospital foundations are the largest single non-government funder of children’s health in Canada.

Located in Vaughan, Ontario, CCHF will have an annual operating budget of about $4 million, largely funded by fees paid by the Children’s Hospital Foundations, and a staff of approximately 16.  Annual fundraising revenue will exceed $40 million to begin with, and is forecasted to grow annually from there.  These expected revenues represent current funds raised by the Children’s Miracle Network partners in Canada as well as funds raised through new national partnerships CCHF hopes to activate that will not fall under the CMN brand.

All current and future Children’s Miracle Network activities and its strong corporate partnerships in Canada will remain intact and continue to operate as part of CCHF’s mandate under a licensing agreement with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the USA.

About Children’s Miracle Network

Children’s Miracle Network raises funds and awareness for 170 member hospitals, 14 of which are in Canada. Donations stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment and research. Its various fundraising partners and programs support the nonprofit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.  Each day, over 4,900 children will receive medical treatment for various diseases, sickness and injuries at Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals across Canada.  These children’s hospitals depend on financial support so that critical priorities, vital programs, equipment and research devoted to children’s health continue to thrive.

Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations (CCHF), a newly established Canadian not-for-profit, is seeking a dynamic President & CEO.  CCHF will continue to build on the decades-long success of the Children’s Miracle Network partnership in Canada while establishing new nation-wide partnerships to raise significant funds to support Children’s Hospital Foundations in Canada. 

Reporting to a Board of Directors, the President & CEO will be responsible for developing the overall growth strategy for Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations, which includes the Children’s Miracle Network Canada partnership portfolio, and other national fundraising partnerships and initiatives.  Responsible for $40 million in annual fundraising revenue with targets of 8% annual growth, the new President & CEO will have a passion for advancing children’s health and a proven track record in developing and stewarding national and international partnerships that support the new organization’s objectives.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Engaging and highly collaborative, the ideal candidate will be a seasoned and accomplished fundraising leader with particular proven experience in corporate partnerships.  A masterful relationship builder who is both persuasive and politically astute, the inaugural President & CEO will innately understand the realities of operating within a coalition environment.  Exceptional listening skills combined with a strong diplomatic communication style will allow the new CEO to effectively guide multiple stakeholders with differing needs, strengths and perspectives in achieving a common vison and goal. Shifting comfortably between vision and operationalization, the successful candidate will take an active lead in driving the strategic plan forward.

A big-picture thinker and strategist, the new CEO will proactively seek and explore untapped potential on a national basis. Innovative and entrepreneurial, the ideal candidate will be a savvy marketer and compelling storyteller with proven success in brand positioning, communications, partnerships and public relations.  The new incumbent will bring strong business acumen and an exceptional understanding of corporate partners’ business priorities and philanthropic interests, as well as experience developing sustainable relations with corporations.  With a high level of energy and passion, the President & CEO will be excited about a dual role where they are essentially both the CEO and the Chief Fundraiser.

The successful candidate will heighten CCHF’s stature nationally, fostering new corporate partnerships and driving initiatives to emphasize our brand as an advocate for children’s health across the country while also maintaining and enhancing the strong legacy work of Children’s Miracle Network in Canada.  Passionate about CCHF’s mission, the CEO will ideally bring sound knowledge of the work of children’s hospitals and their foundations including fundraising, marketing, marshalling volunteers, program development and delivery, research and financial management.  Authentic and personable, the ideal candidate will possess exceptional people skills and truly enjoy interacting with all stakeholders - from the hospital foundations to corporate sponsors through to physicians, families and patients.

A collaborative team player, the CEO will successfully leverage the expertise and resources of member organizations and mobilize people towards the CCHF vision and towards achieving common objectives.  Highly organized and with sound business judgment and analysis, the ideal candidate will effectively set priorities, develop work schedules, monitor progress towards goals and track details, data, information and activities.

Confident and credible, the successful candidate will provide excellent support, motivation and partnership to, and foster trust and mutual respect within, CCHF’s Board of Directors and its member organizations.  A motivated builder and self-starter, the ideal candidate will set clear expectations of all stakeholders in realizing the vision and goals of Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

The President & CEO will provide strategic leadership and direction to CCHF in fulfilling the organization’s commitment to provide the highest level of financial support to the organization and its 13 Canadian hospital foundation members, advancing children’s health across Canada.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements the overall organization strategy to ensure annual and long terms goals are achieved.
  • Develops and manages revenue and expense budgets for review and approval by the Board.
  • Work in close partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals head office, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, to ensure strategic alignment, maintain brand standards for CMN partnerships and programs, facilitate efficient sharing of resources where appropriate, and promote close collaboration between the two organizations.
  • Leads a team of professionals to meet the goals of the organization through efficient management, coaching and motivation.
  • Grows the current fundraising revenue stream of approximately $40 million through effective stewardship of existing partnerships and by strengthening business development strategies and implementing aggressive plans to engage partners through innovative fundraising approaches.
  • Supports the Board of Directors and has a good understanding and experience with boards and governance processes.
  • Nurtures and maintains a strong working relationship with the executive leadership of the 13 Children’s Hospital Foundations in Canada.
  • Enhances the existing strong relationship with current CMN national partners and is responsible for acquiring additional new corporate partners for the CMN program.
  • Builds and fosters strong relationships with new and existing national partners for the benefit of CCHF member hospital foundations.
  • Provides strategy and assists with the development and delivery of a strong communications, marketing and public relations plan and program.
  • Ensures all areas of the business are developed and managed using digital and technology advances.
  • Develops and maintains effective and consistent communication channels with stakeholders including the Board of Directors, CMNH, partners and stakeholders.
  • Provides strategy and assists with the development and delivery of a strong stewardship and donor recognition plan.
  • Stays abreast of fundraising trends and best practices and engages with sector leaders to ensure CCHF evolves its programs and processes to be cutting-edge.
  • Participates and is an active non-voting member of the CCHF Board of Directors and subsequent committees of the board.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Achieves the financial success of CCHF by meeting or exceeding financial revenue targets as well as effectively managing expenses.
  • Delivers on the organizational success of the CCHF team by ensuring staff are driving for outcomes aligned with strategic direction and are highly motivated with a high degree of morale.
  • Guarantees that the communication and stewardship plans are established and are considered “State of the Art”.
  • Ensures the profile of CCHF is established nationally.

  • Strong national profile and demonstrated success building relationships with corporate and community partners, senior volunteers and key stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in identifying and leading strategic business development opportunities.
  • Proven ability in facilitating and developing long term strategic plans.
  • Experience as a consensus builder with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven successful operational/program leadership background with extensive people management and team building experience.
  • Strong finance and administrative management skills with experience setting budgets, financial modeling, forecasting and reporting, and business planning.
  • Knowledge of technology, social media and digital platforms.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and strong knowledge of governance principles.
