Job Description


Dentons Canada has a Proposal Manager position available. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic, innovative and creative team that directly supports the firm win new business and increase its market presence. You will be an integral part of a larger Marketing and Business Development group focused on defining and articulating Dentons’ go-to-market strategy and aligning with global initiatives and best practices. 

As a Proposal Manager, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of compelling pitch and proposal materials while championing Dentons Canada proposal processes and procedures.  You will guide bid teams on the bid/no-bid process through to the post-submission follow up with internal and external stakeholders. You bring value every step of the way through rigorous project management, exceptional skills, and guidance on winning themes and differentiators.

Reporting to the Director of Proposals and Publishing, you will work closely with the business development team as well as key members of the finance, business intelligence, creative and risk departments.


  • Manage all aspects of the proposal process from receipt of the RFP to delivery of the final product. This includes evaluating the opportunity, developing a strategy around the look, feel, tone of the response, creating compelling content, ensuring quality assurance and timely submission, and post-mortem review and analysis.

  • Produce tailored win strategies, including unique sales propositions, evocative key messages, compelling and profitable pricing strategies and persuasive value propositions.

  • Assist in managing the pipeline of bids in terms of efficient, appropriate resourcing and task distribution

  • Coach lawyers and professionals to fine tune structure and performance of finalist presentations.

  • Work closely with business development and finance departments to ensure the smooth delivery of commitments in our successful pitches/proposals.

  • Assist in driving and facilitating a formal debrief process (internal and external) to capture post-proposal analysis on major RFPs. The goal is to record lessons learned, potential improvements in process and offerings, and share useful data trends for use on future bids.

  • Champion firm-wide education and adoption on proposal policy and opportunity evaluation.

  • Support the creation and maintenance of a central content management system by developing, gathering and sharing compelling content fragments.

  • Provide guidance to the business development team, who may act as subject matter specialists on major RFPs, facilitating the process and simplifying cross-functional support and production.

  • Ensure all proposals and pitches, as well as additional collateral, are consistent with branding guidelines.

  • Record monthly proposal activity including win/loss ratios and debrief information for improved reporting to leadership.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 5-10 years of experience in leading and managing large, complex proposals; professional services environment preferred; experience working with virtual teams is an asset.

  • Previous proposal writing/management experience is a must; experience at a law firm is an asset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to comfortably engage individuals at all levels of the firm.

  • Must be able to demonstrate creativity, organization and coaching skills in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.

  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail are prerequisites.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Highly effective at prioritizing, multitasking and time management to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to absorb and translate complex ideas and translate them into clear, defined messages to a specific target audience.

  • High level of business acumen, creative problem solving, critical thinking and analysis to identify and articulate key principles of value.

  • Strong morals, diplomacy, political/cultural sensitivity and a commitment to confidentiality

  • Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
